Basics of  Video with

Pressbooks

How to embed video?

Adding video is easy. Video stored on an online repository can be embedded. Using the Visual text editor (not the Text/HTML editor tab) >Paste URL. This method works for YouTube, Vimeo, and other videos widely available on the internet that are enabled for embedding.

How to embed YuJa?

YuJa is the video-hosting platform that is institutionally supported at Concordia University. In contrast to YouTube, you have more control over the ownership of your content, such as lectures that are not fully ready to be remixed in the spirit of OER.

Accessibility matters

Unless the video can display the audio as text, a transcript is often the only way some individuals can interact with the content.

Copyright and permissions matters

Check the licence details for all third-party content. The author and project lead are responsible for ensuring that their Open-Textbook project does not infringe on any third party’s proprietary or intellectual property rights. You may wish to clarify whether the license of your YuJa videos is distinct from the overall e-book licence, especially if your book adopts an open culture licence that facilitates its cloning or adoption. In that case, you may wish to ensure that your video content (e.g., if it includes student voice) requires permission to be cloned or adapted. To achieve this, add a line of text after the video describing the licensing terms of the video content.

YuJa Example

Latest Trends in Education for Sustainability” in A Guide to Embedding Education for Sustainability in Higher Education Courses by the Centre of Teaching and Learning is an example of an embedded YuJa video with a downloadable transcript.
