Departmental Collaboration at Concordia

An inspiring example of departmental collaboration at

Concordia

This chapter showcases three chapters from the JOUR 443: The Digital Magazine open textbook, one of Concordia University’s OER grant-funded open textbook projects. Cristina Sanza and Andrea Hunter lead this department-wide initiative for the Department of Journalism’s capstone course.

An example of scaffolding pedagogy, the open textbook, is integral to JOUR 443, the department’s capstone course with multiple chapter-level uses for journalism courses. Some aspects that make this textbook stand out are accessibility, collaborative peer and student co-authorship, equity and inclusion, diversity and representation, interactivity, and localization. We highlight the expert use of multimedia and H5P (HTML5 Package and content types and activities), demonstrating that creating, sharing, and reusing interactive content is easy.
